Christmas in the City

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

A few days ago, I popped up to downtown Chicago to see it in all its holiday glory.  I had a great time catching up with friends, checking out the famous Macy's window displays, celebrating my heritage at the German Christkindlmarket, and basking in the many glowing Christmas lights throughout the city (oh and shopping, plenty of shopping)!  I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a big "Happy New Year" to you all!

Here are just a few pics (all shot on iPhone) from my quick jolt through downtown...

Chicago Weekend

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

I've been able to travel a bit lately (woohoo!) and one of the destinations I visited was Chicago.  I spent time with my dear friend, Val.  (She, by the way, is an amazing graphic designer.  See for yourself here).  Our time together was filled with laughing, talking, city exploring, and photographing.  You know you have a good friend when she's always willing to join you on photo excursions!  Poor thing always has to put up with me trying to get the 'perfect shot.'  We made our way around the city, stopping to appreciate some famous and not-so-famous landmarks.  Even though we'd seen most of these sights many times before, it was rewarding to take the time to pause and reflect on their beauty.

This was the most common sight during the weekend - me with camera in hand.

Here are just a few of the images I captured during the visit:

Chicago in Black & White

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

There was a recent gallery exhibit of Ansel Adams' photographs that I had to check out.  What an inspiring talent that man was!  I was reminded of my love of black and white photography, developing black and white film with my own two hands, and spending hours in the darkroom creating prints.  Now days there's the "digital darkroom" that requires a whole new set of skills.  But we often forget the mastery that creating a darkroom print entails.  I SO wish I still had easy access to a darkroom because I could spend many a happy hour under the soft red glow of the lights.

I've been working mostly in color lately, but Ansel inspired me to embrace the black and white again for a bit.  So...a trip up to Chicago yesterday + an Ansel Adams exhibit = Chicago in black and white. :)
