Colors of Autumn

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

Living in the Midwest, we don't bat an eye when the weather dips and turns.  It can seem like summer one day and winter the next.  But there's always a bit more excitement when fall colors begin to appear.  This year, I was able to travel out to Colorado to see how they do fall.  We were there at the peak of the color and - WOW - the fall colors came out in all their glory.  I've seen a lot of pretty trees in my day, but I don't think I've ever seen such vibrancy as I did out west.  It felt like God was putting on a brilliant display just for us.

Driving almost 2,000 miles across the state of Colorado meant winding our way up and down mountain passes, traveling a bit too close to the edge of mountain drop-offs, and reveling in some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes I've ever seen.  It also meant that I was photographing - a lot.  Since I probably took just shy of a billion pictures, here are just a few to give you an idea of the beauty we saw.

To The Sea

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a lake with my family.  We're not just talking about any old lake here - we're talking one of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan.  Lake Michigan is (of course) great and absolutely huge.  There are miles of beautiful beaches stretched along its shore.  The Midwest is not what comes to mind when thinking about beautiful beaches, but trust me, it has plenty.  We were fortunate enough to have access to a private beach.  It was so relaxing to sprawl out and have the space almost completely to ourselves.  I don't know if there is anything better than watching the crashing waves, digging your toes in the sand, having beach bonfires at night and doing it all with the people you love.  Oh, and photographing it all. :)

Summer Storm

Posted on by Angela Kauffman

The other day I was driving through the country on my way home.  Off in the distance, I could see a summer rain shower and the clouds above it were amazing.  The clouds, the rain, the setting sun, the green fields - of course I had to stop to take some pictures.  I quickly took a detour and found a field of wildflowers that I could trek into.  Sometimes I feel like I really should have a caution sign on my car that says, "Warning!  Vehicle makes sudden and unexpected stops for photography."  Sometimes it's just too hard to pass those shots by...
